Brian Boom
Brian Boom Brian M. Boom is Director of The New York Botanical Garden Press, as well as Vice President for Conservation Strategy, Director of Science Outreach, and Bassett Maguire Curator of Botany. He received his Ph.D. in Biology from City University of New York in 1983, where his dissertation was a taxonomic revision of the genus Isertia (Rubiaceae). Brian has been with the Garden since 1984, holding numerous appointments with research that primarily focused on the flora of various regions in South America. He has received various awards for his important work in ethnobotany and beyond, including The Charles A. Lindbergh/Harry Frank Guggenheim Award in Anthropology and the Fulbright Research Award. He holds adjunct appointments at CUNY, NYU, Yale, and Columbia.
